Arsenal fans BLAST Unai Emery over Mesut Ozil: ‘It’s bordering on a sackable offence’
ARSENAL fans are not happy with Unai Emery once again omitting Mesut Ozil for the Europa League clash with BATE Borisov tonight.
Arsenal: Emery's side train ahead of Europa League clash
It marks the 100th time the German has not featured for the Gunners since joining the club back in 2013.
Emery has left Ozil out for tactical reasons on many occasions this season and he didn’t even travel with Arsenal for this clash.
The 30-year-old has played just 14 times in the Premier League this campaign.
But fans on social media are backing the player over the manager and say Emery needs to give Ozil a chance.
One said: “Why #Ozil still not playing? Get him back soon as you can. #YaGunnersYa.”
Another added: “I honestly want Arsenal to lose this game so that Emery realises his mistake and starts the right 11 going forward.
“You need creative midfielders like Ozil and Ramey to open up defences and create chances. Iwobi and Xhaka can never do that!”
A third explained: “This game is perfect for Ozil but emery prefers Iwobi who mishits nearly every pass.”
Another even questioned whether Emery should stay in his job over the bizarre situation with Ozil.
They posted: “How can Emery watch the lack of superiority and ideas and not use Mesut Ozil?
“It’s bordering on a sackable offence imo #afc #BATEARS.”
Arsenal have lacked creativity in the match so far and find themselves 1-0 at half-time.
Stanislav Dragun converted from a free-kick crossed in by Igor Stasevich right at the end of the first 45 minutes.
Martin Keown has also had his say on the Ozil situation.
He explained on BT Sport: “I think the manager’s basically saying ‘look, you can’t just turn up and train when you want to, when you fancy it, I’m not going to take you on this trip because you haven’t trained enough’. That’s right and proper.
Arsenal: Ozil slammed by John Hartson for ‘shocking behaviour’
“I still feel though that he has got something to offer. The player has to ask himself what does he want to do, where does he want to play his football?
“If he’s going to go somewhere else his wages are so massive that Arsenal would have to contribute towards those wages.
“It just feels that decision made 12 months ago is proving to be the wrong decision.
“That decision is costing Arsenal Football Club something like £18million a year just alone for Ozil’s wages.
“That is really very restrictive for the football club.”
