Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri will be sacked when he does this - pundit
CHELSEA will sack Maurizio Sarri if and when he loses the dressing room, claims former Sunderland goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen.
Chelsea dropped down to sixth in the Premier League table following Sunday’s 6-0 drubbing by Manchester City.
Sarri, who replaced Antonio Conte last summer, initially had a successful start to his Stamford Bridge reign.
But question marks have risen over the Italian’s style of play and the Blues have lost their last four away games in all competitions without scoring.
Sarri was allowed to bring in No 1 striker target Gonzalo Higuain in January, who joined on loan for the rest of the season with the option of a further 12 months.
If there’s something wrong, it’s turned a corner, there’s no way back, I think then you can look at a sacking
Sorensen says Chelsea must continue to fully back the direction Sarri wants to take the squad.
But he claims if the dressing room turns on the manager, then a sacking may be on the agenda.
“That’s where you have to trust the people in charge at the club,” Sorensen told Optus Sport.
“They choose the direction of where you’re going and they’ve gone with Sarri.
“And they, you would expect, have to buy full into that and you need time.
“I know in today’s day and age you don’t have it.
“You look at [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer and there will be talks now that he doesn’t deserve the manager’s job because they [Manchester United] lost. So it is really tough.
“But again unless there is things from the inside that you can actually see, there’s things in the dressing room, and not just players but overall he’s lost the dressing room, there’s something wrong, it’s turned a corner, there’s no way back, I think then you can look at a sacking.
“If that’s not the case, if they are moving in the right direction but there needs to be some player changes, you’ve got to stick with that direction at least for a couple of years.”
Chelsea will look to end their run of four straight away wins on Thursday evening.
They visit Swedish side Malmo in the first leg of the Europa League last-32 clash.
Higuain could make his European debut for the club.
Marcos Alonso has been rested for the match.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek misses the clash due to a minor back injury.
