Paul Pogba: Man Utd star struggled against PSG because of one player - Owen Hargreaves
PAUL POGBA was unable to have a big influence on Manchester United’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday because he was man-marked out of the game, claims Owen Hargreaves.
Man United's Solskjaer says team must learn from PSG loss
Pogba had been in a fine run of form heading into the Champions League last-16 first leg match at Old Trafford.
However, he and his Manchester United team struggled to break down the PSG defence, and the Frenchman was sent off late on after receiving a second yellow card.
And Hargreaves says Marquinhos, who was playing in defensive midfield, was responsible for thwarting Pogba.
“You just need somebody to grab the game by the scruff of the neck,” Hargreaves said at half time on BT Sport.
Paul Pogba, probably the in-form player in Europe, he’s been man-marked by Marquinhos
“Paul Pogba, probably the in-form player in Europe, he’s been man-marked by Marquinhos.
“He’s been the best player on the pitch probably Marquinhos.
“But he’s capable of a moment of magic.
"Somebody needs to grab this game, it’s there for both teams.”
Before the game, Hargreaves claimed Pogba’s recent form shows he is one of the best players in the world.
The Frenchman had scored eight goals in his last 10 appearances.
And Hargreaves also said interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be given the job on a permanent basis.
“Since he’s taken over they’ve been the best team in the Premier League,” Hargreaves said.
“They’re the highest scoring team, they’ve improved defensively.
“Paul Pogba looks like one of the best players in the world, [Anthony] Martial, [Marcus] Rashford.
“There’s nothing wrong with the way Manchester United are playing.”
