PSG team news vs Man Utd: Predicted line up – Neymar and Cavani latest, Mbappe decision
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN will be without both Neymar and Edinson Cavani when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford tonight (8pm).
Manchester United v PSG: Champions League match preview
Paris Saint-Germain will have to cope without star attacker Neymar and Edinson Cavani when they take on Manchester United in their Champions League Round of 16 tie.
Both forwards are sidelined due to injury with Neymar suffering a broken metatarsal while Cavani is struggling with a hip injury.
PSG manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to field Kylian Mbappe in a central striker role but has a decision to make regarding his side’s formation due to the high-profile absentees.
When asked if Neymar’s absence was comparable to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo missing for Barcelona and Juventus, Tuchel said: “Let me put it another way, will Manchester United miss [Paul] Pogba if he was not there tomorrow, or [Marcus] Rashford?
“Of course they will, you cannot replace quality players like this, Neymar is one of the key players in Europe and we miss him a lot and now we miss a second key player with Edinson.”
Mbappe is the stand-out candidate to lead the line but Tuchel must decide whether to field the 20-year-old on his own or paired with an unorthodox striker.
Angel Di Maria and summer signing Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are both potential candidates to feature alongside Mbappe, although a 4-2-3-1 formation is more likely.
Julian Draxler is expected to start in the No 10 role while Dani Alves could be deployed as an emergency winger.
Marco Verratti has shrugged off a knock and should anchor the midfield alongside Marquinhos while January arrival Leandro Paredes is another alternative.
Thomas Muenier is injured and will be replaced by versatile defender Thilo Kehrer, although the German is more comfortable at centre-back.
Thiago Silva and Presnel Kimpembe should start in central defence while Juan Bernat and Layvin Kurzawa compete for the left-back berth.
Gianluigi Buffon has featured in goal for the Ligue 1 side in their Champions League matches so far this season and is sure to do so again at Old Trafford.
