Liverpool news: ‘No chance’ - Sky Sports pundit makes Reds Premier League title admission
DERBY defender Curtis Davies is confident Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season - but admits he thought they had no chance at the beginning of the campaign.
Jurgen Klopp says he is yet to find out when Gomez will return
Liverpool are currently five points clear of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the table.
They missed the chance to increase the gap to seven points after only drawing 1-1 at home to Leicester on Wednesday.
City suffered their fourth defeat of the campaign on Tuesday, going down 2-1 at Newcastle.
And Davies, who was appearing on Sky Sports’ The Debate, cannot see Liverpool dropping enough points to allow City back in.
No, no chance. Man City all day long because of what Man City did last year
“I honestly think Liverpool will do it,” he said.
“If City are going to have these blips that are uncharacteristic and Liverpool can get away with it by drawing, I think it’s just meant to be.
“I know it seems to be the Twitter world and the social media world are against Liverpool winning the title.
“But ultimately they’re an unbelievable side that everyone loves watching.
“So bar a similar situation to what Tottenham have had and maybe missing a [Mohamed] Salah, a [Sadio] Mane, or [Roberto] Firmino, or missing two at once, I can’t see them dropping too many points before the end of the season, or not enough that it’s going to see Man City topple them.”
Former England defender Matthew Upson then asked if Davies thought Liverpool would win the Premier League at the beginning of the campaign.
“Did you pick them to win at the start of the season?” Upson said.
And Davies admitted he thought City would retain their crown.
“No, no chance,” he replied.
“Man City all day long because of what Man City did last year.”
Man City are next in action on Sunday when they host Arsenal at the Etihad (4.30pm).
Liverpool make the trip south on Monday night as they visit West Ham (8pm).
