Chelsea news: Carragher makes big claim over Sarri future - 'It would be surprising'
CHELSEA manager Maurizio Sarri might not be at the club next season if results continue as they are.
Chelsea a ‘complete shambles’ under Sarri says Nicol
That’s according to Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
Sarri’s methods this season at the club have come into question, following a a dismal run of form since December.
The season started well for Chelsea, but teams have quickly found out how to play against them, and have begun to target key players on the pitch like Jorginho.
The Italian started the season in magnificent form, constantly cutting though the heart of other teams.
But the former Napoli man has essentially taken the place of N’Golo Kante, who many perceive to be one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
And Carragher believes that Chelsea’s ruthless business model of the years will soon affect the job prospects of Sarri.
“Maurizio Sarri looks to be on thin ice at Chelsea,” he wrote in the Telegraph.
“It has already reached the point where it would be surprising if he is in charge at Stamford Bridge next season.
“That would be ridiculous anywhere else. Not at Chelsea. They are the epitome of Premier League ruthlessness, sacking managers after their first poor run."
Carragher went on to say that history doesn’t favour Sarri, as Chelsea have seen managers come and go after title-winning seasons.
Previous Blues managers to get the axe a year or less after winning the Premier League include Carlo Ancelotti, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
“Given recent results, performances and Sarri’s public comments, history tells us the Italian should worry,” he added.
“His first year in England is becoming reminiscent of that of Luiz Felipe Scolari and Andre Villas-Boas rather than Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
“Of Roman Abramovich’s appointments, only Villas-Boas won fewer points than Sarri in his first 24 league games.”
Chelsea are, however, in the Carabao Cup final, which will afford Sarri the chance to try and win his first trophy as a manager.
They’ll also be looking to advance to the next stages of both the Europa League and the FA Cup in February when the come up against Malmo and Manchester United.
