Man Utd transfer news: De Gea and Martial could snub exits because of Solskjaer - Hunt
MANCHESTER UNITED stars David de Gea and Anthony Martial will stay at the club should the Red Devils continue to be competitive.
McGarry: De Gea and Martial refuse to talk contracts with United
That’s the view of former Premier League winger Stephen Hunt, who has seen United win their last eight games.
It has come since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been placed in caretaker charge following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
Solskjaer has got the Red Devils playing fluid football again with the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford impressing.
Their wins have included victories over Tottenham and Arsenal with Solskjaer putting himself in the frame to be named permanent manager of Manchester United.
The futures of David de Gea and Anthony Martial remain up in the air despite positive results.
Though Solskjaer has hinted the pair will receive new deals soon, saying: “I think the club’s making progress but I leave that to the right people to do that I don’t know really how far we are away from it but hopefully we’re going to have some good news in the coming weeks.”
And Hunt believes that the duo will sign new deals if the winning run continues.
“From a team that was struggling to get into the top six, United are now Champions League contenders and, with Harry Kane and Dele Alli out for lengthy spells, who would bet against them toppling Tottenham?” Hunt wrote for the Irish Independent.
“The positivity is as high as it has ever been.
“That is why the board is clearly happy for Solskjaer to put out positive messages about the futures of David de Gea and Martial.
“They can get the same, if not more, money anywhere, but a Manchester United which is seriously competing again is a completely different proposition.”
Man Utd: Former coach reveals why David De Gea might leave
Recent reports suggested Manchester United are prepared to make De Gea the best-paid goalkeeper on the planet.
De Gea’s representatives are angling for him to move into the same pay bracket as Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba.
And that would see him pocket a cool £290,000 a week, more than any other stopper in the world.
