Man Utd news: Ray Parlour warns Chelsea fate could happen to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
MANCHESTER UNITED have been warned appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer full time could end up like Roberto Di Matteo’s reign at Chelsea.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not for the long term says pundit
Solskjaer has won his first eight game in interim charge of Manchester United since replacing the sacked Jose Mourinho in December.
The Norwegian is now the favourite to get the job on a permanent basis ahead of Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.
But former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour says United have got to be careful Solskjaer’s reign does not go the same way as Di Matteo’s.
Di Matteo was appointed interim boss of Chelsea in March 2012 following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.
The only worry you’ve got is a little bit like Di Matteo at Chelsea
Against all expectations Chelsea went on to win the Champions League for the first time in their history that season.
Di Matteo was given a two-year contract to become permanent manager but was sacked the following November.
Parlour has been impressed with the impact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had at Old Trafford.
But he says the worry is if Solskjaer’s responsibilities will change if given the job full-time.
“The only worry you’ve got is a little bit like Di Matteo at Chelsea,” Parlour said on Sky Sports.
“Obviously he got them to the Champions League final, won that.
“Then the following season ‘now I’m the manager’ he’s got to make big decisions.
“At the moment everybody is enjoying it because of what Jose Mourinho did to the side.
Solskjaer doesn't have experience buying players says pundit
“You could see [Paul] Pogba on Friday, running at players and that’s what he’s good at.
“But I didn’t see that under Jose Mourinho, the players have got the shackles off them now.
“[Marcus] Rashford’s a different player now, so all these guys have benefitted from the change of manager.
“But you always worry about that [the Di Matteo scenario] if that did happen.”
