Former Tottenham star Ryan Mason lets rip at Arsenal for decision 'you can't explain'
FORMER Tottenham star Ryan Mason has let rip at old rivals Arsenal for the way that Aaron Ramsey has been allowed to leave.
Ramsey, who joined Arsenal from Cardiff in 2008, has completed a medical with Italian giants Juventus.
He will put pen to paper on a five-year contract worth around £140,000 a week and will join the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
It comes after Arsenal put an offer on the table - then withdrew it. It will end with one of their top talents leaving for nothing.
Mason told The Debate: “How big a miss will Aaron Ramsey be for Arsenal? Massive. Massive, really really big.
“I watched the game against Chelsea at the weekend and he was outstanding.
“I know the front two were very good with their movement and running in behind but the dimension that Aaron Ramsey brings in terms of his forward runs, his arriving in the box, the goals, the assists, he’s going to be a huge miss for Arsenal.
“That’s bad business from the football club to allow Aaron Ramsey to run his contract down, you just can’t explain it in this day and age.
“It’s not possible for Arsenal to do that and lose a player of his calibre. He’s going to Juventus, it looks like, it just goes to show what a great talent he is."
Ramsey may be on his way out but he continues to figure in Unai Emery's thinking.
The Wales international was preferred to Mesut Ozil in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday and he put in a performance that drew praise from the Gunners boss.
“The professionalism that he’s shown, he knows he ‘s leaving but that game at the weekend, he’s running around, he was putting his body on the line for that football club and you have to give full credit to him," Mason added.
“A lot of players, I wouldn’t say down tools, but they would look after themselves, take care of their body, but him, he’s been absolutely outstanding for theme so he’s going to be a huge miss.”
