Man Utd news: Martial in Sanchez issue, Blanc blew Old Trafford job chance, Mourinho claim
MANCHESTER UNITED news is coming thick and fast ahead of Friday’s FA Cup showdown with Arsenal. Express Sport brings you all the latest with Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez, Laurent Blanc and Jose Mourinho all featuring.
Man United: I don't think Martial will move says Nicol
Man Utd star Martial in Sanchez issue
Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez has complicated the club’s attempts to tie Anthony Martial down to a new contract.
Sanchez signed from Arsenal last January, with the Chile international moving to Old Trafford in a straight swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
And ESPN claim Sanchez’s arrival has ‘complicated’ United’s attempts to tie Martial down.
However, with the France international now a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, things are different.
And Martial is now, after months of speculation, expected to sign an Old Trafford extension.
Blanc blew Old Trafford job chance
Laurent Blanc had a shot at being Manchester United’s replacement for Jose Mourinho.
But the Manchester Evening News claim the Frenchman cost himself the chance to take over at Old Trafford.
It is claimed that, in the aftermath of Mourinho’s sacking in December, United set their sights on Blanc.
But the Frenchman did not take over after demanding the job on a permanent basis.
United, deterred by that, opted to go for Solskjaer instead.
Mourinho claim
Glen Johnson believes United sacked Mourinho because the 55-year-old became ‘boring’.
“When that was all new, fresh and different at the time, people loved it, whereas now they might have started to get a bit bored with it,” the former Portsmouth man added.
“And then when he does something which is not like himself, it gives people an opportunity to jump on him.
“For whatever reason, whether we’ll know or not, something just didn’t click and I don’t think he was as happy as he could have been.
“He came across a bit drained.”
Laurent Blanc should replace Solskjaer says Paul Parker
