Arsenal news: Surprise defender joins Man City trio and Salah in best statistical PL XI
ARSENAL fans will be pleased to see one of their defenders make the Premier League Team of the Week based on statistics, but it's not captain and goalscorer Laurent Koscielny.
Premier League: Who is the current top scorer?
Arsenal were in fine form to see off Chelsea 2-0 at the Emirates on Saturday, closing the gap on the Blues to just three points.
Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring for the Gunners before Laurent Koscielny doubled the lead, mistiming a header and diverting the ball in off his shoulder.
Despite his unorthodox strike, Koscielny was very impressive as part of a resolute rearguard and will have delighted Arsenal fans with such a display so soon after returning from injury.
However, it is one of his fellow defenders who has been recognised for their performance in the WhoScored.com Premier League Team of the Week based on statistics.
Hector Bellerin was enjoying a superb display against Chelsea, helping to successfully shackle both Willian and Eden Hazard, before the Spaniard suffered a nasty injury and had to be stretchered off.
The 23-year-old still managed to rack up an impressive match rating of 8.2 based on his contribution, with the score generated using a complex collection of detailed statistics.
Mohamed Salah makes the cut for his two goals in Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Crystal Palace while three Manchester City players are also included.
