West Ham transfer news: Sheth delivers news on 'intriguing twist' - and possible signing
SKY SPORTS man Dharmesh Sheth has spoken of on an 'intriguing twist' to West Ham's transfer business.
The Hammers have been rocked by Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG coming in to sign Marko Arnautovic.
A £35million offer has been tabled and the striker wants to quit West Ham for China.
He is staying put - for now - while Shanghai SIPG appear to have now turned their attentions elsewhere.
They are now interested in former Hammer Dimitri Payet, of Marseille, and the Chinese side are willing to double his wages.
"At West Ham there's an intriguing twist to a man they used to love," Sheth said.
"Marseille's Dimitri Payet is the subject of strong interest form Shanghai SIPG - the same club who were after Arnautovic.
"A potential offer would double Payet's wages - so what would that mean for Arnautovic?
"West Ham have rejected a £35million and don't want to sell but Arnautovic wants to make the move."
Boss Manuel Pellegrini is confident Arnautovic will not follow Payet's lead by going on strike but plans are already being made if the Austrian does go.
"We are told that positive talks continue with Celta over Maxi Gomez," Sheth added.
"West Ham tried to sign Gomez last summer and it's agreed he has a £45million release clause in his contract.
"Gomez has scored nine goals in 15 starts for Celta this season."
