Man Utd star David de Gea gives funny response when asked for his favourite save vs Spurs
MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper David de Gea was awarded Man of the Match for his incredible performance against Tottenham, but it will take a replay of the game to remind him just how good he was.
United’s No1 has endured a below-par season following on from a disappointing World Cup with his nation, in which he made a blunder in the first group game.
Although picking his form up slightly at club level, De Gea has not put in the sort of showings which earned him the title as one of the best keepers in the world.
But since Jose Mourinho’s sacking last month, it is not just the outfield players who have been rejuvenated.
Interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer “brings some happiness”, in the words of De Gea, and that was evident at the end of United’s 1-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday evening.
I do not remember some of them! I’m happy with everything.
De Gea made 11 saves in the match, all of them coming in the second half, which is more than any other keeper has made in a Premier League fixture this season.
Such was the heat of the game, and the constant barrage on his goal, that the 28-year-old shot-stopper came off the pitch in a blur.
Asked after the game to give his favourite of the 11 stops, De Gea told Sky Sports: “No, I do not remember some of them! I’m happy with everything.
“We won the game against a top team like Tottenham, we controlled the first half.
“But the second [half] they put a lot of pressure, they had chances but we defended well and we’ve got the three points.
“I was feeling very well with the first two saves, but it was a great game.
“Especially with the three points at Wembley, with the fans, so we’re very very happy.”
Asked about the effect of Solskjaer on the side, De Gea said: “He brings some happiness, the team is playing very well now and is strong.
“We know how to control the games, how to create chances, and this is the real Manchester United.”
