Man Utd transfer news: ‘It would be fantastic’ - pundit makes Philippe Coutinho claim
PHILIPPE COUTINHO would be a fantastic signing for Manchester United - but leaving Barcelona makes no sense for the Brazilian.
Philippe Coutinho would be fantastic for United says pundit
That is the opinion of former Arsenal striker and ESPN FC pundit Paul Mariner.
Philippe Coutinho has been linked with a shock return to the Premier League with Manchester United.
The forward has yet to hit the heights promised from his £142million move to Barcelona from Liverpool 12 months ago.
He has made just nine starts in La Liga this season, scoring four goals for Ernesto Valverde’s side.
For United it would be fantastic, but it’s a miss for him
The last time Coutinho started a league match was back on December 2 in the 2-0 win over Villarreal.
But Mariner does not think he should quit the Nou Camp just yet.
And he claims United, who are without a permanent manager, would not be an attractive proposition for him if he did leave.
“I don’t know why he would want to go there,” Mariner said.
“I don’t know why Barcelona would want to sell such a fantastic player.
“Yes, [Ousmane] Dembele’s come in and done very, very well of late.
“But Coutinho is a proven, quality player.
“Would you go from Barcelona to Manchester United? The state that Manchester United is in at the moment.
“They’re not sure about who the manager is going to be.
“So I’m going to say young man stay where you are.
“For United it would be fantastic, but it’s a miss for him.”
