Real Madrid transfer news: Inter want Modric and Kroos, Perez retaliates with Icardi push
REAL MADRID are set to launch a move for Mauro Icardi as Inter Milan target two of their own stars.
That is the shock report in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport today.
Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Icardi for years.
No deal has ever been struck and the Argentine has become Inter’s captain and star striker since his arrival in 2013.
His agent and wife Wanda Nara handles Icardi’s contract affairs and has previously revealed no concrete bids have come in for the forward.
But that could all change by the summer if dominoes start to fall in Milan.
According to Corriere dello Sport, both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos want to leave Real Madrid.
And the pair could reportedly rock up at the San Siro next season.
Modric was linked with a move to Inter last summer but a deal was not formalised.
A move at the end of this season could happen, while Kroos is said to be keen on a Bernabeu exit.
The report claims Inter’s interest in Modric and Kroos could trigger a response from Real president Florentino Perez.
The official is set to target Icardi, who has a £100m release clause for any foreign clubs that will be available for activation between July 1-15 next summer.
Real Madrid themselves are battling on a number of fronts - both on the pitch and off it.
Mauro Icardi would be 'absolute hit' for most clubs says Burley
They won the Club World Cup last month but have returned to La Liga action to draw and lose their first two matches of January.
The title race is all-but over and Real may focus more on the Champions League over the coming months.
Manager Santiago Solari is under contract at Real until the end of next season but Perez is expected to seek a new long-term replacement at the end of this term.
Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte have been linked, as well as Juventus manager Max Allegri.
Jose Mourinho is out of work and could return to his former club.
As for Inter, their title chances are over after falling 14 points behind a dominant Juve this season.
But the club aims to qualify for next season’s Champions League before giving the scudetto are real push.
