Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler backs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be next Man Utd boss
LIVERPOOL legend Robbie Fowler spent years trying to stop Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co coming out on top in battles with arch rivals Manchester United.
But now Fowler has backed Solskjaer in his hunt to get the permanent Manchester United job after he made it five wins from five against Reading.
"Results are everything and if he carries on as he's started so far, keeps winning, then he's going to make it incredibly difficult for his board to look elsewhere," Fowler told the Mirror.
"There is something that excites me about him.
"I've been banging on in these columns about man-management being an important element of modern day football - how coaches still need to 'manage' the mentality and emotions of their team.
United's players look motivated and inspired
"United's players look motivated and inspired. That's where the man-management comes in.
"I'm a big believer in getting the right atmosphere, setting the right mood in training for match-days, and getting your players to buy into what is required - and also tuning into what they need.
"Solskjaer has clearly done that, and whether or not he's the top class coach that United need - in terms of first team tactics and the wider implementation of a modern approach over the whole club - he certainly is the manager they need right now."
Solskjaer has equalled Sir Matt Busby's record of winning his opening five games - the best start any United manager has had.
But he will face the biggest test yet when he travels to Wembley to play Tottenham on Sunday.
"Of course, Spurs away at Wembley: that's a proper test," Solskjaer said.
"We're looking forward to that one. That will give me more of a reference of where we are with the top boys.
"Because we're not really happy talking about fifth, sixth or fourth. The club needs to move on and up the table."
