Arsenal transfer news: Unai Emery on brink of beating TWO giants to Denis Suarez signing
ARSENAL are poised beat off a late challenge from AC Milan and Roma to win the £18million race to land Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez.
The deal will reunite former Manchester City academy star Suarez who celebrates his 25th birthday on Sunday with Unai Emery who was in charge when he spent a season on loan at Sevilla.
He has found himself on the fringes at the Camp Nou this season having only made two appearances in La Liga and as many in the Copa del Rey and Champions League.
Chelsea were interested in signing the Spanish international but never followed up on their initial interest as soon as The Gunners entered the bidding.
Emery is lining up Suarez as a replacement for Wales international Aaron Ramsey who is poised to join Juventus on a free transfer next summer.
The Welsh international is out of contract with Arsenal at the end of the season and hasn’t been offered a new deal to remain at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners are under pressure to cut their wage bill could afford to match the £110,000-a-week that Ramsey will be picking up in Turin.
Juventus will pick Ramsey, 28, up on a free transfer in July after Arsenal boss Emery rejected an attempt from them to sign him during the winter transfer window.
Ramsey has received a lot of interest since it was revealed that talks on a new deal had stalled and they he was on his way out of North London.
Juve jumped to the front of the queue of clubs and have been quick to agree terms with just a few minor details to be ironed out.
Arsenal progressed in the FA Cup yesterday with a 3-0 win over Blackpool.
The Gunners are next in action on Saturday against West Ham in the Premier League.
