Liverpool goal DENIED: See how agonisingly close Reds were to opener at Man City
LIVERPOOL came extremely close to opening the scoring against Manchester City, only for goal-line technology to deny them.
It was Manchester City which made the dominant start to the game, putting Liverpool on the backfoot and pressing high up the pitch.
But when the visitors found one small breakthrough they almost found the opening goal.
Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino linked up brilliantly in the middle of the pitch before the former played through Sadio Mane.
The Senegalese international managed to get a shot off with Emerson rushing towards his feet, only for it to cannon back into the six yard box off the post.
Then it was a free-for-all as City players scrambled to clear it.
John Stones inadvertently cleared the ball off Ederson and it bounced towards the goal-line.
The England centre-half then just got back in time to clear off the line ahead of Salah.
It looked extremely close in real time but the replays confirmed exactly how close it really was.
The Goal Decision System showed most of the ball over the line, only for millimetres to deny Liverpool from taking the lead.
And Liverpool were made to pay for their missed opportunity with Sergio Aguero bagging the game's opening goal in the closing stages of the first half with a ferocious strike at the near post.
