Chelsea transfer news: 'I want him to stay... I do not know final decision'
CESC FABREGAS could be set to stay at Chelsea, despite reports suggesting he might terminate his contract.
The Spaniard has reportedly been frustrated with his lack of game time at Stamford Bridge, and is said to be exploring the possibility of a move elsewhere.
Fabregas has made just five appearances in the league so far this season.
And he reportedly wants to get more minutes under his belt as he approaches the final few years of his career.
At 31-years-old, Fabregas is one of the older members of the Chelsea midfield, and has seen younger stars Ross Barkley, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante play ahead of him.
It had been reported that Fabregas had been negotiating with Chelsea to end his contract, so he can find a deal elsewhere.
However, Blues manager Maurizio Sarri appeared to squash those rumours by insisting that the World Cup winner is still very much part of his plans.
“I want him to stay,” Sarri said, per the Mail.
“In this position we only have two players, Jorginho and Fabregas.
“So for me it would really be a problem without Cesc.”
Sarri did, however, admit that Fabregas’ future is out of his hands.
The Italian insisted that if Chelsea are forced into letting the midfielder go, he will have to be replaced immediately.
“I don’t know the final decision of Cesc and the club, of course,” he continued.
“But for me, it’s very important, and if Cesc will go I think that we need to buy another player.
“And it’s not easy, because technically, Cesc is a very important player.
“And I think that in the market it’s very difficult to find a player with his characteristics.”
