Yet Woodward could give the job to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer full time if he continues to get the best from Paul Pogba.
Pogba has starred in recent matches against Huddersfield and Cardiff - and keeping the France international happy is a big priority for the club.
And United may also give up on Pochettino if Solskjaer manages to steer them to a top four finish.
Solskjaer transfer demand
Solskjaer has been urged to sell Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku by Sky Sports pundit Alan McInally.
“Pogba’s not going anywhere. Lukaku might,” McInally said.
“I think it would be a bigger problem if they got rid of Pogba.
“Keep Pogba all day long, he’s a player. I’m keeping Pogba, I’m selling Lukaku in a heartbeat.
“They can get as much money for him as they want, I’m not letting Pogba go anywhere.”
Sanchez plan
Solskjaer will make Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez do two things, it has been claimed.
The Chile international has struggled since arriving from Arsenal back in January.
And the Evening Standard say he will be asked to stick to attacking areas under Solskjaer - in order to maximise damage on opposition defences.
It is also said he will ask Sanchez will also be asked to take risks.
