What Man Utd relationship between Jose Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson was REALLY like
MANCHESTER UNITED icon Sir Alex Ferguson rarely talked to Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese’s time at Old Trafford, it has been claimed.
Manchester United sacked Mourinho last week, with the 55-year-old becoming the club’s third managerial casualty since Ferguson’s retirement five years ago.
The Red Devils chose to part ways with the Portuguese amid their nightmare start to the Premier League season, with the club 19 points adrift of Liverpool at the summit.
Manchester United are now managed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who will oversee ongoings at Old Trafford until the end of the season.
And The Sun have now opened up on the relationship between Ferguson and Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese’s time in the job.
In 2016, United chose to do a deal with the devil.
They had stagnated under Louis van Gaal - despite the Dutchman winning the FA Cup - and saw Mourinho as the ideal man to rival Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for Premier League supremacy.
Many thought Mourinho would consult Ferguson regularly as he aimed to make his mark.
But The Sun say he rarely contacted the Scot - who played a key role in his sacking.
It is said Ferguson made sure both Solskjaer and United’s No 2, Mike Phelan, were up for taking over on an interim basis.
And the duo have already made their mark with United beating Cardiff 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.
That performance was a throwback to the Ferguson era, full of attacking threat and fantastic football.
Solskjaer got the perfect start when Marcus Rashford fired home a free-kick after just three minutes.
And a Jesse Lingard brace, coupled with strikes from Ander Herrera and Anthony Martial, made it the perfect afternoon.
Man United: Zidane should replace Mourinho says Richard Keys
Ferguson watched the match with a smile on his face.
Mourinho, meanwhile, is now focusing on his next move amid links with Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
Inter would reportedly love to have him back, with Mourinho winning a treble with the Serie A giants in 2010.
However, so too would Real Madrid.
Los Blancos may sack Santiago Solari at the end of the season and Florentino Perez feels Mourinho would be the ideal replacement.
