Wenger has already indicated he intends to be back in work by January 1, while there are claims Mourinho could soon return to management.
And Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb claim it is Wenger who is the frontrunner to land the Milan job - should it become available.
According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport today, Gattuso has two games to save his job.
Milan sit fifth in the Serie A table and are desperate for Champions League football next season.
They lost to Fiorentina yesterday and Gattuso must now beat Frosinone and SPAL between now and December 29 to save his job.
Wenger is the favourite to replace the Italian, with former Arenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis now in charge at Milan.
Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, has been linked with the Inter post but the Nerazzurri seem happy with boss Luciano Spalletti right now.
Indeed, Tuttomercatoweb claim Mourinho is most likely to return not to his former club Inter but Real Madrid instead.
Real have Santiago Solari in charge right now after they sacked Julen Lopetegui.
A new long-term manager will likely be appointed in the summer, which is when Mourinho may well look for a new post.
