Chelsea news: Shock Barcelona transfer would only happen on one condition - Moreno
BARCELONA would only sign Alvaro Morata if the Chelsea man was happy to be backup player at the Nou Camp, claims ESPN FC pundit Alejandro Moreno.
Chelsea: Morata would be a backup at Barcelona says pundit
Morata has been linked with a shock January move to Barcelona after struggling at Chelsea this season.
The 26-year-old’s Spain team-mate and Barca left-back Jordi Alba has claimed he would be welcome at the club.
When asked if he could see Morata going to Barca, Moreno joked it would only be for a holiday.
And he admitted the striker would have to be happy being an impact player for Ernesto Valverde’s side, just how he was previously at Real Madrid and Juventus.
It would have to be under his knowledge and acceptance of the fact that he’s going to be what he was at Real Madrid and what he was at Juventus, which is a second-choice striker
“To do what? What’s he going to Barcelona for?” Moreno said.
“Is he going to go on vacation? A little food, a little something?
“He’s got to sort himself out at Chelsea before he even considers going to Barcelona.
“Barcelona would be taking him at a discount.
"And it would have to be under his knowledge and acceptance of the fact that he’s going to be what he was at Real Madrid and what he was at Juventus, which is a second-choice striker.
“Maybe that’s his best role. I still think this is a miss.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez has been linked with a move in the opposite direction to Chelsea.
Moreno reckons Suarez should leave Barca but does not think Chelsea would be the right destination for him.
“Denis Suarez hasn’t played in who knows how long,” the former Venezuela international added.
“He only plays Copa Del Rey against whoever Barcelona’s playing. It just doesn’t feel like he’s going to thrive at Barcelona.
“He’s just a depth guy, a squad player at this point.
"I don’t know if it is to Chelsea but it feels like maybe he should go elsewhere.
“I’m going to say miss because I don’t think it will be to Chelsea.”
