Arsenal news: ‘He is the BEST Premier League signing’ - Gunners star receives huge praise
ARSENAL midfielder Lucas Torreira has proved himself to be the signing of the summer in the Premier League, according to former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell.
Arsenal fan heaps praise on 'amazing' Lucas Torreira
Torreira joined Arsenal from Serie A side Sampdoria in the summer for a fee of around £26million.
The Uruguay international initially had to settle for substitute appearances in the first few games of the season.
However, Torreira has now started the last 11 matches in the Premier League under Unai Emery.
He opened his goal account in the 4-2 north London derby win over Tottenham earlier this month and scored a late overhead-kick winner against Huddersfield on Saturday.
To go on a 21-game unbeaten run, where he’s played a significant role, I think he takes it right now
Torreira has earned rave reviews for his performances, claiming several man of the match awards already.
And Campbell says the 22-year-old is so good he has made his team-mates better.
Asked if Torreira was the best signing in the Premier League from the summer window, Campbell told Sky Sports: “To date, yes. I believe he is.
“I believe he’s made such an impact, not only is he such a good player, I think he’s impacted Granit Xhaka and those around him.
“They’ve improved and to go on a 21-game unbeaten run, where he’s played a significant role, I think he takes it right now.”
Torreira was the fourth of Emery’s five signings in his first window in charge at Arsenal.
And the Spanish head coach heaped praise on the midfielder after the 1-0 win over Huddersfield.
“Last week (Torreira) scored and today also. He has quality,” Emery said.
“His interpretation on the pitch, tactically, in attacking moments and defensive, he’s very fast in his mind and his feet.
"He can do very good work in defensive moments and like today and last week get into the box and score.
“We want to break every expectation with the players. He’s improving, he works every day with big commitment and good behaviour.
"He has the commitment every day to learn English for our meeting in the dressing room.
“That’s the first step: the commitment and behaviour. Then he has quality and hunger.”
Torreira is likely to be rested for Arsenal's Europa League clash at home to Qarabag on Thursday.
The Gunners have already confirmed top spot in their group heading into the match.
