Liverpool news: Robertson proves fitness in training ahead of Bournemouth, no sign of Mane
ANDREW ROBERTSON was spotted getting stuck into training ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Saturday (12.30pm).
Burnley vs Liverpool: Klopp reveals Mane and Robertson injuries
Liverpool have been boosted by the return to training of Andrew Robertson as the Scottish international continues his recovery from a minor injury.
Robertson missed the midweek win over Burnley at Turf Moor but now looks in contention to feature against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this weekend.
The 24-year-old picked up a dead leg in the Merseyside derby which ruled him out of the clash against Sean Dyche’s Clarets, with Spaniard Alberto Moreno deputising.
Robertson was spotted throwing himself into challenges at Melwood on Thursday afternoon, sparking hope the left-back will be fit in time for the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.
However, Liverpool face a crunch Champions League match against Napoli next Tuesday with a place in the knockout stages on the line.
Defeats to Red Star Belgrade and Paris Saint-Germain have left the Reds needing to beat their Italian opponents 1-0 or by two clear goals in order to progress.
Manager Jurgen Klopp may therefore choose to rest Robertson against the Cherries, saving him for the European fixture.
Another injury doubt for this weekend is Sadio Mane after the Senegalese winger suffered a cut to his foot against Everton.
Mane also missed the 3-1 victory over Burnley but was nowhere to be seen when the Liverpool squad were put through their paces in training this week.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference before the Burnley game, Klopp said: “Sadio really had an awful cut on his foot.
“It needed to be stitched; he is okay but walking around here now in flip-flops and you don’t play in flip-flops!
“That means in this moment he is not ready, but we will see later.
“With Robbo it is not that serious as with Sadio, but we need to have a look.”
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were both pictured training after being left out of the starting XI on Wednesday.
Both came on for cameos with Firmino getting on the scoresheet, although Klopp would have preferred to rest the star duo entirely.
It remains to be seen whether they will return to the side against Bournemouth or continue to be preserved for the match-up against Napoli at Anfield.
