Liverpool news: Nabil Fekir transfer still ALIVE, Lyon issue decision deadline
LIVERPOOL could still reignite their interest in Lyon star Nabil Fekir.
The Reds had a £52million bid accepted for the attacking midfielder before the World Cup.
But complications with the player’s medical saw the deal collapse after concerns about Fekir’s right knee.
Talks were set to continue after the tournament but Liverpool pulled the plug.
After staying put for this season, Lyon have now issued the 25-year-old with a deadline to make a decision on his future.
President Jean-Michel Aulas is renowned for being a stubborn businessman but now does not want to risk losing the player for cheap as his contract runs down.
Fekir’s current deal has just 18 months left until it expires.
He has now been told to decide whether he wants to stay or leave Lyon according to the Liverpool Echo.
If he seeks an exit from the Ligue 1 side, Liverpool maybe tempted to revive a deal if Jurgen Klopp is still on the lookout for an attacking midfielder.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich also remain interested in the player.
Lyon will do all they can to tie their captain down to a new contract.
If he does not sign on the dotted line it could see him leave the club on a free transfer in 2020.
There has been confusion at Lyon as to who is representing their midfielder.
“For the moment, we have not really had a real discussion, even if we met three weeks ago,” president Aulas said.
"The sorting out of various things concerning who the agent is, is ongoing.
“The aim, is to have a clear and precise position from his point of view between now and the end of the year.
"Jean-Pierre Bernès is still his agent but he cannot be so at the end of the player’s contract.”
