Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho singles out ONE star who showed most ‘soul’ against Arsenal
JOSE MOURINHO has singled out one player who showed the most ‘heart and soul’ against Arsenal.
Manchester United played out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, however it was a result that did their faint Champions League hopes no favours.
After falling behind to a Shkodran Mustafi header, United equalised through Anthony Martial.
The second half was frenetic with two goals in the space of a minute, with Jesse Lingard responding after Marcos Rojo put through his own net.
The result ensures Unai Emery’s men have now gone 20 games in all competitions unbeaten.
While Rashford hasn’t always gained the praise of Mourinho, the Portuguese tactician was quick to hail the England international.
“Today was more the same, but with great spirit and people ready to have a go and fight hard, it was a credit to the team,” Mourinho said.
"They went to the limit and were really tired.
“Some of them had not played all season, Chris Smalling playing in very difficult condition, but Arsenal were only dangerous when we lost the ball in bad areas.
Rashford, just to give a name, gave everything for the shirt
"This is a performance of big soul and heart, Rashford, just to give a name, gave everything for the shirt.
“But even from our bench you could feel the little panic when the ball comes to our defensive third."
Meanwhile, Nemanja Matic is adamant that United are playing for Mourinho, as he said: “Both teams attacked.
Arsenal played ‘far better’ than Manchester United says Gray
“It was a great game for the supporters but I thought we deserved a point.
“Everyone knows the confidence is not high, but this is the fight that we have to show.
“Everyone is ready to play wherever the manager asks.”
