Liverpool news: Man City boss Guardiola defends Klopp’s Everton antics for THIS reason
MANCHESTER CITY boss Pep Guardiola has defended Jurgen Klopp for his wild celebrations against Everton - because he has done it himself.
Klopp sprinted from his dugout and on to the pitch after Divock Origi netted a fortunate late winner top seal a 1-0 victory in Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield.
The Liverpool boss apologised when he was interviewed after the game and said he meant no disrespect by his actions.
And Guardiola says it is easy to get caught up in the moment in big games.
The Spaniard did similar when Raheem Sterling scored last-gasp winner in a 2-1 victory over Southampton - then managed by Mauricio Pellegrini - last season.
But he also said he can understand why Everton chief Marco Silva might have been upset by Klopp.
"I did it. Against Southampton, there's a lot of emotions in those moments," Guardiola said.
"I know when I did it I was not happy to have done it, so I can understand Marco [Silva], [Mauricio] Pellegrino when it happens.
“But sometimes it's what it is - an emotional game.
"Everything happens in your mind, I talk for my side, you have to be respectful for the other ones.
"When you win you are a huge personality when you lose it's a lack of respect.
“When you lose you are impolite, a bad guy, and when you win everything is acceptable.
“We live in a world where everyone judges the winners and it's just that we win. That's what it is."
Klopp said he apologised to Silva straight after the final whistle for his over-the-top celebrations.
“Immediately after the game I apologised to Marco Silva when we spoke to each other,” he said.
“I told him how much I respect his work, because it’s incredible what he has done with that team. They are just a really outstanding side."
However, Silva appeared to contradict this when he was quizzed on the subject.
“He didn’t apologise to me,” he said. “To be honest I didn’t see it, I don’t know what he did.
“I don’t think he expected anything like that either. It was a lucky way to win but that’s football.
“I don’t say it was a lack of respect because I didn’t see it.
“Maybe when I see that moment I can say more about the situation.”
