Man Utd news: ‘If he was at United, he would be in the team’ - big transfer prediction
BOURNEMOUTH midfielder David Brooks would be starting for Manchester United if he joined the Red Devils.
That is according to former Arsenal, Aston Villa and England forward Paul Merson.
Brooks joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United in July for a fee that could rise to £11.5million.
The Wales international has made an immediate impression at the Vitality Stadium, scoring three goals and creating another in his 12 Premier League appearances.
Brooks, 21, was let go by the Manchester City academy in 2014 and joined The Blades the same summer.
If he was at Man United now, he’d be playing, he’d be in the team
Merson has been impressed by Brooks and claims the Manchester United scouts need to be looking closer to home to find talent such as his.
“A good player and good scouting, good scouting,” Merson said on Sky Sports.
“We were talking about scouting earlier and Man United that you don’t always have to go out and buy star players.
“This lad is a very good player.
“Eddie Howe saw it in him and probably thought he was going to take a little bit longer to get into the team and do what he’s done.
“But I like this lad, I think he’s a good player.
“A big, big compliment about him is he’s got a very, very good footballing brain.
“I can’t talk highly enough of the lad, I think he’s a very, very good player.
“And fair play to the scouting at Bournemouth to find him.
“If he was at Man United now, he’d be playing, he’d be in the team.
“I think he’s a very special player.”
Brooks was named on the bench for Bournemouth's trip to Manchester City on Sunday.
