Liverpool news: Major Neymar and Kylian Mbappe injury update that will WORRY Reds fans
NEYMAR and Kylian Mbappe WILL be fit in time to play against Liverpool next week, according to PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Kylian Mbappe injury bigger blow to PSG than Neymar say pundit
Neymar and Mbappe both picked up knocks during the international break which seeded doubt that they may miss the crucial UEFA Champions League clash against the Reds.
Neymar was holding his groin as he gingerly exited the field eight minutes into Brazil's 1-0 win over Cameroon on Tuesday, while Mbappe hobbled off after six minutes following a bad fall on his shoulder in France's game with Uruguay.
The pair have both registered 13 goals and six assists this season in all competitions, but PSG sit third in their Champions League group, one point below Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp's men won the first fixture between the two at Anfield, thanks to a last-minute strike from Roberto Firmino eight minutes after Mbappe thought he had nicked a draw for the visitors.
I think that both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will be able to play against Liverpool
The losers of Wednesday's match will find themselves in a treacherous position, should Napoli defeat Red Star Belgrade, as is expected.
Tuchel has confirmed that neither Mbappe nor Neymar will feature in PSG's Ligue 1 match against Toulouse on Saturday in order to ensure their fitness for midweek.
"It is not too serious for Neymar & Kylian Mbappe," Tuchel said at his Friday press conference.
"But we will take no risks against Toulouse. The possibility that they play against Liverpool exists."
The extent of both strikers' injuries was not initially clear, but PSG coach believes he will have his star strikers match-fit in time for the visit of Liverpool.
"As we speak, now, I think that Neymar will be able to play against Liverpool," Tuchel continued.
"However, we will have to speak with the medical staff.
"Today, I think that both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will be able to play against Liverpool."
Neymar will STAY at PSG despite Mbappe's form says pundit
PSG midfielder Julian Draxler joined his compatriot Tuchel at the press conference and asserted the team's confidence ahead of the crunch European clash.
“We are not afraid of Liverpool," Draxler said.
"We do not fear elimination. We know that this is a mini final & that it will be better to play in than the 1st leg. We have a great team for it.
"We hope that Neymar & Mbappe will recover in time for Liverpool. If we have any injuries, though, we have players who can step in -- I am one of them.”
