Man Utd news: Gary Neville discusses Man City weakness ahead of derby
MANCHESTER CITY have NO weaknesses heading into this afternoon’s derby against Manchester United in the Premier League.
That is the verdict of Sky Sports pundit and Manchester United legend Gary Neville.
Reigning champions Manchester City are unbeaten after their first 11 games of the season.
They sat top of the table heading into the weekend’s action, two points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool.
United visit the Etihad in good form themselves, having gone on an unbeaten run of four games in the league.
I don’t think there is a soft point to this Manchester City team
Manchester United also pulled off a dramatic late 2-1 win at Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday, so will be full of confidence.
Neville admits this time last year there were weaknesses in the City team that opposition could exploit.
However, he claims that is no longer the case in Pep Guardiola’s side.
“I don’t think there is a soft point to this Manchester City team,” Neville said.
“You could look at the centre-backs and say if they’re exposed you could get at them.
“But they’re very rarely exposed, you don’t get chances against them that much.
“You could look at David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne in midfield and you could lazily say, 12 months ago you could have said and I’m sure managers would say, let’s run off them when we have the ball because they’re not the best defenders.
“But they’ve proven in transition in defending over this last 12 months that they react better than most.
“So now actually you’re sat here thinking ‘well, there isn’t that big a weakness there’.”
United will move up to sixth in the table if they avoid defeat at the Etihad.
Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku are not expected to start the match due to injury.
City would also remain top if they do not lose this afternoon.
