Brazil international Sandro is a long-term target for the Red Devils.
Sandro, 27, was tipped to head to the Premier League in the summer, with United and Chelsea chasing the left-back.
However, Juventus ended up keeping hold of the defender, much to the frustration of Mourinho.
And Italian outlet Calciomercato claim Mourinho is desperate for United to spend big in the January transfer window.

They say the United boss has asked the Old Trafford board to sign Sandro immediately.
Sandro was expected to sign a new long-term contract with Juventus, however, the Italian giants are yet to get their star left-back to commit to the club.
Calciomercato add that Mourinho also wants Sandro’s Juventus team-mate Mehdi Benatia.
Mourinho was desperate to sign a centre-back in the summer.
United tried to sign Leicester’s Harry Maguire, Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld and Diego Godin of Atletico Madrid.
However, Red Devils executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward refused to back his manger in the summer transfer window.
United ended up completing three deals before the start of the season, with Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant heading to Old Trafford.
Mourinho has cut a frustrated figure this season but the arrivals of Sandro and Benatia would lift the Special One’s spirits.
United had their joint-worst start to a Premier League season this time out.
The Red Devils find themselves nine points behind league leaders Manchester City after just 11 games.
Mourinho’s men face Sandro and Juventus tomorrow night in the Champions League (8pm kick off).
