Why Manchester United winning games is BAD NEWS for Romelu Lukaku - pundit
MANCHESTER UNITED striker Romelu Lukaku will struggle to get back into the starting XI if the Red Devils keep winning.
Mourinho explains why Lukaku was left out of Bournemouth clash
That is the verdict of ESPN FC pundit and former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley.
Lukaku dropped to the bench for the Premier League clash against Everton eight days ago.
The Belgian then missed Manchester United’s trip to Bournemouth on Saturday due to an injury picked up in training.
United have won those two games and are now unbeaten in their last four in the Premier League.
There’s certainly not a guarantee that if they keep winning and players play well, that he’s just going to waltz back into the team
Burley was asked if Lukaku’s time at United was coming to an end.
He disagreed but did say the 25-year-old may find first-team football limited.
“I wouldn’t say it’s up,” Burley said of Lukaku’s United career.
“But there’s certainly not a guarantee that if they keep winning and players play well, that he’s just going to waltz back into the team.”
United came from behind on Saturday to beat Bournemouth 2-1 thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Marcus Rashford.
It’s the third time in four games United have conceded first but still got something out of the game.
Burley says that is a good trait for a team to have but is still yet to be convinced by Jose Mourinho’s side.
“They got completely outplayed in the first half didn’t they,” Burley said of the Bournemouth clash.
“I know they won the game and that’s all that matters, but it’s the sort of getting over the line stuff.
“Same against Newcastle when they were losing, same again at Bournemouth.
“It’s a good trait to have but you don’t want to be coming from a goal down all the time.
“But Bournemouth played some great stuff and they absolutely knew what they were doing.
“Man United look as if they’re still trying to figure it out.
“At this stage of his tenure? At this stage of the season? Still trying to figure it out?”
