Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho reveals surprising thing he told Eddie Howe
JOSE MOURINHO shockingly admitted his Manchester United side should have been 5-1 down at half-time against Bournemouth.
Marcus Rashford's injury-time goal won the points for United and saved them from an embarrassing draw on the south coast.
Callum Wilson put the Cherries in front after ten minutes, tapping his effort past David De Gea.
Anthony Martial levelled the game after half an hour, as United went into half-time drawing 1-1.
It took United until the 92nd minute for Rashford to pop up in the box and poke past Asmir Begovic.
After the final whistle, Mourinho was seen talking to Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, and in his post-match press conference he revealed what he said.
The United manager admitted he told Howe that they should have put the game out of sight in the first half.
“I told him, 'Should be 5-1 half-time’” He said.
“So at least he knows I recognise they were by far the best team in the first-half.
“In the first-half we were a very, very lucky team.
“A first-half that could should be game over 5-2, 6-2, easily.
“And in the second-half until we scored I was feeling we were a very unlucky team because in second-half we should score three, four or five goals and we didn’t.
“So it is what we traditionally call a game of two halves, when Bournemouth was the best team by far and in the second-half United were the best team by far.”
Mourinho also took time out to criticise his defenders.
United are rumoured to be in the market for a new centre-back pairing in January, with Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire both touted.
“I think when we make a defensive mistake, I think instead of forget and keep playing is like something that triggers instability,” Mourinho said.
“And in that situation that happened after a couple of minutes with [Ryan] Fraser facing David [de Gea] and with the possible 1-0 after a couple of minutes, I think that triggered instability in the team.”
