Glenn Hoddle: BT Sport host Jake Humphrey sends emotional message to Tottenham hero
GLENN HODDLE is currently in hospital after collapsing earlier today - and his BT Sport colleague Jake Humphrey has sent his best wishes in an emotional message this evening.
Glenn Hoddle taken seriously ill at the BT Sport studio
Former Tottenham and Chelsea midfielder Hoddle collapsed at the BT studios this morning where he was due to work on BT Sport Score - the programme which covers the afternoon’s Premier League matches.
Humphrey had earlier tweeted the England manager had been taken “seriously ill”.
Leicester hosted West Ham live on BT this evening and at the start of the programme, Humphrey sent his best to Hoddle, who turned 61 today.
“Good afternoon and thanks for joining us and welcome to an overcast King Power Stadium where, to be honest, the weather really reflects the mood of all of us,” Humphrey said.
We’re standing alongside you Glenn, sending you our very best for a speedy recovery
“I’m sure you’ve seen the news from earlier today that this morning Glenn Hoddle was taken ill at the BT Sport studios.
“The good news is he’s now at hospital, getting the very best treatment possible.
“But whatever Glenn Hoddle is to you, whether it’s one of the greatest footballers the country’s ever produced, a wonderful colleague, a much-loved family member, the outpouring of love and support today has been quite something to behold and of course all of us at BT Sport absolutely add to that.
“We’re standing alongside you Glenn, sending you our very best for a speedy recovery.”
Hoddle’s last appearance on BT Sport was on Thursday, where he worked as a pundit for Arsenal and Chelsea’s Europa League clashes against Sporting Lisbon and BATE Borisov respectively.
And just before kick off in Leicester, Humphrey once again reminded the viewers of today’s worrying news.
“Whether it’s sitting here in the studio, retailing us with tales of his amazing career, or wearing a big old winter coat standing up on the gantry commentating on the matches,” Humphrey continued.
“Glenn is a man whose love, passion and knowledge for the game shines through.
“Glenn, we love you, and we’re with you every single step of the way.”
BT commentator Darren Fletcher, who has worked alongside Hoddle on countless occasions, also sent his message of support.
“What a difficult day it has been for all of us at BT Sport,” Fletcher said.
“Both John (Hartson) and myself would say at this time that our thoughts, even though are concentration is here at the King Power, our thoughts and wishes and prayers are very much with our colleague Glenn Hoddle.”
