Man Utd news: Why Paul Pogba was right for blasting Jose Mourinho tactics - Ian Wright
PAUL POGBA has been proven right for demanding a more attack-minded style from Manchester United.
Man Utd: Wright praises Pogba's tactics against Newcastle
That is the view of Arsenal legend Ian Wright.
Following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Wolves last month, Pogba claimed they should have attacked more at Old Trafford.
Those comments led to Mourinho stripping Pogba of the deputy captain role and then being left out of the squad which crashed out of the Carabao Cup to Derby.
United went into Saturday’s clash with Newcastle without a win in four games and after 10 minutes they were 2-0 down to the Magpies.
But a rousing second-half display saw United play their best football of the season and fightback to win 3-2.
And Wright believes that if Mourinho lets his players off the leash, they are capable of challenging because of the talent at their disposal.
“Pogba got slaughtered and dug out for saying ‘attack attack attack’," the former Arsenal forward told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"What were they doing against Newcastle? They were attacking, attacking, attacking.
“That’s what they want. And apparently he [Mourinho] listened to them at half-time and they did it.
“You can’t write United off. They’ve got a very good squad.
“Going 2-0 down to Newcastle in such a short space of time and then coming back to do what they do, they should be doing that.
“The players that they’ve got, and we’ve seen in certain instances, they were brilliant. That’s what they’re capable of doing.
“They were under pressure and they had to come out of blocks and do something and they did it.
“They played some very, very good football in and around that. Newcastle couldn’t keep them off them.
“Man United were relentless like they used to be."
