Thierry Henry and John Terry ‘DREAM TEAM’ backed to succeed at Aston Villa
THIERRY HENRY as manager with John Terry as his assistant could be a “dream team” at Aston Villa.
That is the verdict of Arsenal legend and BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright.
Henry is the bookies’ favourite to replace Steve Bruce at Aston Villa after the Manchester United hero was sacked last week.
Reports over the weekend claim the Frenchman was to be offered the job with Terry as his assistant.
Terry, who retired from football after a glittering career on Monday, spent last season at Villa before leaving the club at the end of his contract in the summer.
This could be a dream team partnership
And Wright believes the appointment of the legendary Premier League duo could turn out to be a masterstroke from the Championship club.
“When you delve into it, if you’ve got an owner who’s brave enough, you can start putting people around them who they can delegate to,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I think that it’s just very exciting. I think it’s very exciting.
“This could be a dream team partnership.”
Former Celtic and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton was working alongside Wright.
And he believes Terry’s influence at Villa last season will have made a big impact.
“What does it tell you about Aston Villa and the fact they want this to work then?,” Sutton said.
“That tells you that he had an enormous influence when he went there as a player.
“They like him, they respect him.
“If they fancy Henry as well on top of that, then absolutely why not?”
If Henry was appointed manager, his first game in charge would be at home to Swansea on October 20.
Villa are currently 15th in the Championship table with just three wins from their first 12 games of the season.
