Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp given Nabil Fekir hope - Real Madrid deal ‘makes no sense’
NABIL FEKIR joining Real Madrid would make no sense for both parties.
That is the verdict of ESPN FC pundit and former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
Lyon star Fekir has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent days.
The France international was close to joining Liverpool last summer but the deal fell through due to concerns found at his medical.
Fekir had even completed his first interview with Jurgen Klopp's side and had photos taken wearing the kit.
I’m wondering where does he fit in, you look at Real Madrid’s current midfielders, they’re well looked after in that regard
However, he remained at Lyon and has started the season well, scoring three times in his first five appearances this season.
He netted the second in Lyon’s shock 2-1 Champions League win at Manchester City last week.
But Hislop does not think the 25-year-old would break into the Real midfield, with Luka Modric still looking strong at 33 years of age.
So could that leave the door open for Liverpool to come back in for the attacking midfielder?
“As much as he was linked with Liverpool last summer, I thought that would have been a done deal,” Hislop said.
“Looking at this link to Madrid, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.
“I’m wondering where does he fit in, you look at Real Madrid’s current midfielders, they’re well looked after in that regard.
“The only real question is the age of Luka Modric but the way he’s played over, well the course of his Real Madrid career as a matter of fact, he’s showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.
“So this just doesn’t make sense to me.”
Fekir has spent his whole professional career with Ligue 1 side Lyon.
He has scored an impressive 57 goals in 154 appearances in all competitions for them.
Fekir has won 18 caps for France and was part of the victorious squad at the World Cup this summer.
