Two goals from Paul Pogba and one from Anthony Martial gave Manchester United a comfortable 3-0 win in Switzerland.
Jose Mourinho has cut an unhappy figure of late but was beaming after overcoming the Swiss champions.
And BT Sport presenter and ex-England striker Gary Lineker said it was good to see the 55-year-old in a happy mood.
“Good to see a smile on the face of Jose Mourinho Paul,” Lineker said.
They’ll be really pleased with that, it’s important to get off to a good start and they’ve done that
In response, Scholes said: “Yeah it is yeah. It’s a good performance away from home.
“It’s never easy on a pitch they are not used to playing on.
“A good 3-0 win, Pogba was excellent, two good goals.

Rio Ferdinand mocks Liverpool calling them 'small team'
Rio Ferdinand admits Young Boys will not be the toughest task for United in the Champions League this season.
But he was pleased at how they got the job done tonight.
“Efficient. That’s all you can ask for,” Ferdinand said.
“They wanted to get a positive result, keep the momentum going from the league form into the Champions League.
“Get a good start, put a marker down and they’ve done that.
“I don’t think they’re in any great shapes Young Boys and we’ll see that throughout the tournament.
“But you’ve got to get the job done and Manchester United done that.”
