Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp delivers Roberto Firmino eye injury update ahead of PSG
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp admits he is unsure whether Roberto Firmino will be back in time to play against PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
The Reds forward suffered a nasty eye injury against Tottenham on Saturday after clashing with defender Jan Vertonghen.
A stray finger from the Belgian caught Firmino in the eye, causing him to leave the field with 15 minutes remaining at Wembley.
The Liverpool star updated fans on Saturday evening, reassuring them his injuries were not serious despite doctors confirming he had suffered an abrasion of his left eye.
However, speaking at today's press conference, Klopp wasn't able to guarantee the Brazilian would be involved against PSG at Anfield this week.
No idea [of his fitness], to be honest
“No idea [of his fitness], to be honest," the German said.
"He is much better.
“We all see the picture and we were massively worried.
"But all these worries are away so he will be fine.
"If he will be fine for tomorrow, I don’t know in the moment.
“We are obviously in close contact with him and it improved already – but in this moment I can’t say if he will be available for tomorrow.”
Klopp confirmed Daniel Sturridge is ready to step in and replace Firmino if needs be.
However, the Liverpool boss confirmed that fellow strikers Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke picked up knocks against Swansea U23's.
“We have new injury concerns," he added.
"We tried to give Divock and Dom a bit of practice [for the U23s]; they used it, they scored, but it looks like both of them will not be available for tomorrow.
“It’s not too serious. Div has a little bit of an ankle [injury].
"He tried this morning and didn’t really work out too well, so he will try again tomorrow morning.
"With Dom, we have to see. He got a knock and we will see how that develops.
“So not good news in the moment, but we have a lot of players available and when I saw the players yesterday, there were not any other issues.”
Liverpool host PSG on Tuesday evening, while Napoli take on Red Star Belgrade in the group's other clash.
