Bruce: Fergie will plot for title No 19
STEVE BRUCE, a driving force behind Manchester United’s first Premier League title in 1993, believes the latest triumph will simply be a springboard to even more title glory.
Wigan boss Bruce knows better than most what makes his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson tick.
This morning, with another title in the vault, the preparations for a fourth consecutive league gong will begin.
Bruce said: “Sir Alex’s intention when he came down from Scotland was to knock Liverpool off their perch. It was great when we did it the first time but to now go and match their record of 18 titles is amazing.
“But this is what drives him on. He’ll now want to beat that total and in Rome next week he has the opportunity to draw closer to Liverpool’s number of European Cups.
“Next season he will want to make it 19 league titles. The celebrations over winning it this time will only last half a day
and then he’ll be ready to go again.
“We always thought that winning a first Premier League title was going to be the hardest. After that the club had the right
mentality – they believed they’d never be beaten.
“That obviously stems from the great man himself.
“He’s built so many good teams and this is another one. There are so many young players in the side that there is another great side ready to emerge.”
