Neymar vs Mbappe: World Cup winner SNUBBED as Simeone reveals transfer dreams
DIEGO SIMEONE has stated he would rather sign Brazil star Neymar over World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe for Atletico Madrid.
The pair are the two most expensive footballers in history, after they joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017 for a combined £360m.
Mbappe, 19, soared to fame when he became one of the stars of France’s World Cup winning campaign this summer, becoming just the second teenager to ever score in the final, after Pele in 1958.
Despite the lofty heights Mbappe has reached at such a young age, the Atletico manager explained that he would rather take Brazilian gem Neymar on board, were he ever given the chance.
When asked which of the two players he would rather take, Enrique explained his decision.
“Neymar,” he stated.
“In the Barcelona team of Luis Enrique, when he needed to work, he worked.
“Mbappe is more individualistic and doesn’t have a definitive role.
“Neymar has a fixed position.”
Simeone went on to compare his star striker Antoine Griezmann with his compatriot Mbappe.
The pair played predominant roles as France won their first match since the World Cup with a 2-1 win over Holland on Sunday night.
“Griezmann has a different kind of game,” he explained.
“Mbappe is more powerful and quicker than him, but Griezmann is the pilot.”
Griezmann was close to leaving the club this summer, and a move to Barcelona seemed inevitable.
The Frenchman left fans in limbo until the 11th hour, as he documented his decision of whether to stay or go in a Spanish television show.
The show, named ’La Decision’, took inspiration from LeBron James’ 2010 film of the same name, in which he announced he was leaving Cleveland Cavaliers for Miami Heat.
Atletico fans were pleased when Griezmann announced he was staying at the club. However, the forward this week confirmed he wants to end his career in America.
"If he (David Beckham) wants me to go, I'll go," he said of a potential move to Inter Miami.
