Transfer news: Top 25 bargain deals this summer – Liverpool big winners, Chelsea lose out
LIVERPOOL enjoyed a brilliant transfer window and managed to secure some of the biggest bargains out of all the clubs across Europe this summer, according to a new study.
Liverpool strengthened their squad significantly during the summer transfer window, welcoming four new players to Anfield ahead of the 2018/19 season.
Naby Keita, Fabinho, Alisson and Xherdan Shaqiri all joined the club for big money ahead of the new campaign, with Jurgen Klopp looking to add depth to his team.
While the Reds splashed a significant sum of money on these new acquisitions, a new study has revealed that some of the signings were actually huge bargains.
CIES Football Observatory have employed their own algorithm to calculate a player’s value compared to their real-life price tag, throwing up some very interesting results.
According to the new research, Liverpool significantly underpaid for both Alisson and Xherdan Shaqiri this summer – despite the latter having a relegation release clause.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will likely be feeling aggrieved after seeing Thibaut Courtois leave Stamford Bridge for Real Madrid at a cut price.
While the Belgian stopper completed his move for a weighty €40m (£35.5m), the CIES study suggests Real should have forked out an extra €22.6m (£20m).
West Brom, Wolves and Huddersfield have all pulled off some bargain buys this summer, while Atletico Madrid have also shown their nous in the transfer market.
