Davies on help alert
CURTIS DAVIES, vilified when he left West Brom for Aston Villa, could now do his old club a big favour by helping to keep them in the Premier League.
West Brom have given themselves a slim chance of staying up with a recent surge in results and neighbours Villa can offer a huge hand by beating Middlesbrough and Newcastle.
Davies, above, put in three transfer requests and refused to play before getting his £9 million move to Villa. Baggies fans have not forgotten the way he forced his way out of the club
But now West Brom need their old boy because Villa are at Boro tomorrow and then at home to Newcastle eight days later and both are in contention with Albion to stay up – and Davies is ready to help.
“Our manager won’t field a weakened team for these games,” said Davies. “Martin O’Neill is not one of those to start throwing people in the mix and giving them debuts.
“We want to fight to the end of the season and get as many points as possible.”
Villa could finish fifth, their highest in 12 years, but O’Neill will be reshaping his squad in the summer.
Davies’ central defensive partner Martin Laursen is set to retire because of injury and Gareth Barry is likely to join Liverpool for £8m.
