Man Utd news: Man City boss Pep Guardiola DEFENDS Jose Mourinho over problems
PEP GUARDIOLA has conceded the pressure mounting on Jose Mourinho is part of being a Premier League manager.
Manchester United boss Mourinho has come under scrutiny after his side’s dismal start to the season.
Mourinho has hit back in press conferences, defending his record as a manager.
But their two defeats from three Premier League games already has United six points adrift in the title race.
Guardiola’s Manchester City won the league last season but are themselves already two points off the pace.
Manchester United are a great team
And the Spaniard admitted Mourinho is baring the brunt of the criticism directed at United.
"(It's) our job unfortunately. Our job depends on results,” Guardiola said.
"When we win we are good, when we don't we are not good, it is simple like that.
"The important (thing) is to know the quality and I believe when you get (to) that level in the Premier League, all the managers are here because they are top, top managers."
Guardiola also backed City’s rivals to come good and reignite their title challenge.
"Manchester United are a great team,” he added.
“We are just in August. We have an international break soon so we won't have time to prepare training and to prepare for games, and after that, it is into the real season."
City play Newcastle this weekend, having dropped their first points of the season last week with the 1-1 draw at Wolves.
Guardiola said: "Rafa Benitez did the same against us last season, so we have to adapt.
“Obviously the quality of our play will be important.
“After two minutes, I will know what idea our opponents are using, and we have to train hard to adapt to it.
“Last year, when we dropped points we recovered well and that is why we had a good season.”
