Barcelona transfer news: Borussia Dortmund medical today after £25m Alcacer agreement
BARCELONA forward Paco Alcacer is heading to Germany for a medical at Borussia Dortmund.
Barcelona have agreed to send Alcacer, 24, to Dortmund on loan for the 2018/19 season.
The loan deal also includes an option to buy, with Barca potentially earning £25m if the transfer becomes permanent.
Alcacer is understood to have flown to Germany to have his medical on Monday.
The former Valencia star has failed to make the grade in the Barca first team after joining the Nou Camp giants two yeas ago.
Ironically, Alcacer arrives at Dortmund a year after the German side sold Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona in a £134m deal.
Dembele’s arrival effectively ended any hope Alcacer had of playing regular first-team football alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Spanish newspaper SPORT claim a £2.3m loan fee has been agreed between the two European powerhouses.
Borussia Dortmund will have the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season, depending on Alcacer’s progress in Germany.
Alcacer cost Barca around £26m (€30m) back in 2016 and the club were keen not to make a major loss on a player who has shown glimpses of promise in La Liga.
He signed a five-year contract at the Nou Camp running until 2021.
Both Porto and Real Betis are said to have expressed an interest in signing the player.
Spain’s transfer window runs until Friday, while Portugal’s goes into September.
But with Germany’s window also closing this Friday, Dortmund have pushed to get a deal over the line.
