Man Utd transfer news: ESPN pundit predicts possible January deal
MANCHESTER UNITED will not let Anthony Martial leave the club until at least the January transfer window.
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and former West Ham, Newcastle and Portsmouth goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
Martial has been linked with a move away from Manchester United for the last few months.
The forward was not a regular starter under Jose Mourinho last season and missed out on France’s World Cup squad.
Martial’s agent, Philippe Lamboley, revealed he wanted out of United.
The trouble is, with the English transfer window already being closed, it’s not going to happen now
Chelsea and Tottenham were reportedly keen on him before the English transfer window shut earlier this month.
La Liga outfit Sevilla are said to be interested in taking him on loan.
But Hislop cannot see United letting Martial go without being able to sign a replacement.
“Martial, surplus to Jose’s requirements at the very least,” he said.
“But the trouble is, with the English transfer window already being closed, it’s not going to happen now.
“So, I’ll put this down as a miss.
“I just don’t think any English club does any business now, at least until January.”
Martial started Manchester United’s 3-2 loss to Brighton last weekend.
He got on the wrong side of manager Mourinho in pre-season after failing to return to the tour of the USA following the birth of his child.
The 22-year-old has made 137 appearances in all competitions for United, scoring 36 goals.
United will look to return to winning ways on Monday when they host Tottenham (8pm).
Spurs have won their first two games of the season ahead of the trip to Old Trafford.
They beat Newcastle on the opening day before overcoming Fulham at Wembley last Saturday.
