PSG Financial Fair Play: UEFA ruling NOT today as Real Madrid sweat over Neymar
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN’s Financial Fair Play debacle will not be resolved today, it has been claimed.
Rakitic shouldn't leave Barcelona says pundit
A string of Spanish newspapers had claimed on Thursday that PSG were set to learn their fate from a UEFA investigation into their finances.
There was hope in Spain that UEFA could come down hard on the free-spending PSG, which may lead to Neymar being sold to Real Madrid or Kylian Mbappe heading back to Monaco.
But it appears as though UEFA will NOT come to a decision on the French club today.
It is understood that European football’s governing body could still be weeks away from fully addressing the issue.
And even if the appeal is addressed, it doesn’t mean a statement will come any time soon.
PSG thought their FFP wrangle with UEFA had been resolved at the start of the summer, only for La Liga to request the case be reopened.
The Spanish top flight were unhappy with how PSG signed Neymar from Barcelona last summer.
Barca thought their £200m release clause of Neymar was watertight as no club could afford to pay the fee on their terms.
But PSG did just that, stumping up the full fee to forcible prise Neymar away from the club.
A UEFA statement in July on the reopening of the case stated: ““In light of the recent decision of the Club Financial Control Body chief investigator to close the investigation into Paris Saint-Germain – which commenced on 1 September 2017 – the chairman of the CFCB has decided to send this decision for review by the adjudicatory chamber.”
Where this leaves Real Madrid is not hard to gauge.
After all, reports from Spain suggested a heavy punishment from UEFA could lead to Neymar heading to the Bernabeu.
Neymar scores stunning solo goal in five-a-side game
Real want Neymar to replace Cristiano Ronaldo as their talisman at the Bernabeu and have already sold the Portugal star to make way for the Brazilian.
But a deal for Neymar now looks very unlikely until at least the summer of 2019.
As for Mbappe, PSG are said to have paid Monaco the £134m they owed for the France youngster this summer.
The Paris club signed Mbappe last summer initially on loan, in order to offset his transfer fee onto a new financial year.
In fact, a lack of action from UEFA in the short term could boost PSG’s hopes of signing Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.
An £81m offer is supposedly in the pipeline, although Rakitic has a £107m release clause.
Barcelona do not want to lose the Croatia international but the decision is said to be in his hands.
Developments on that front are expected to come to light on Monday.
