Chelsea transfer news: Pjanic set for Juventus contract after Blues and Man City bids
JUVENTUS star Miralem Pjanic is set to sign a new contract after Chelsea and Manchester City failed to sign the midfielder this summer.
Juventus were aware of interest in Pjanic over the summer but are looking to tie him down to a new deal now the Italian transfer window is shut.
Interest from Chelsea and Manchester City - as well as Bayern Munich and PSG - emerged earlier this summer.
But Juve managed to keep hold of one of their most influential playmakers by playing hardball over his transfer fee.
According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, both City and Chelsea contacted Pjanic’s agent regarding a summer deal.
Pep Guardiola and Maurizio Sarri were on the hunt for fresh faces before the Premier League transfer window closed on August 9.
But despite the contact with the agent, Juventus were reluctant to sell and slapped a +£90m price tag on Pjanic’s head to ward away suitors.
Corriere dello Sport claim Juve will now reward Pjanic for not seeking a move away from Turin by boosting his wages from £4m a season to £5.8m.
That boils down to a weekly wage of round £112,000.
The contract offer will see Pjanic - who joined Juve from Roma in 2016 - extend his stay at the Allianz Stadium until 2023.
It also lays down a marker for how much he would cost if Chelsea, Manchester City or another of his suitors decided to act on their interest next summer.
An announcement on the contract is expected this week.
