That is according to BT Sport pundit and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton, who has labelled the prospective move a “risk".
Lafferty has been heavily linked with a return to Rangers in recent weeks.
But Sutton reckons the Northern Ireland international could be a disruptive influence on Steven Gerrard’s squad.
Gerrard is currently unbeaten in all competitions since becoming Rangers boss.
I don’t think he’s worth the risk. I think he’s a bit of a loose cannon
“I don’t think he should go,” Sutton said.
“I don’t think he’s worth the risk. I think he’s a bit of a loose cannon, that was my point.
“Everything has gone swimmingly well for Steven Gerrard, why take the risk?
“I’m not doubting he isn’t an influential player, but why take the risk?

“He’s not going to play ahead of (Alfredo) Morelos.
“Over the years I have read papers (with stories about Lafferty).”
Yesterday Liverpool legend Gerrard admitted he was a fan of Hearts man Lafferty.
But he did not want to comment on whether he will join before the window shuts on August 31.
“He is not our player at the moment, so I won’t comment on Kyle,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“He is a fantastic player, though. Big fan of him.”
Lafferty spent four seasons at Rangers between 2008 and 2012.
He scored 38 goals for the club in 138 appearances in all competitions.
